Our content is general information and does not replace advice from a qualified health professional.

The content on breastfeeding-mom.com, including articles, calculators, tables and images, is provided for general information only. Please keep in mind

  • Every situation is different. Your health, your baby’s health, any medicines you take and many other factors can change what is right for you. Always ask a qualified health professional about your own situation.
  • Medicines. Information about medicines while breastfeeding is general. Always check the dose and whether a medicine is right for you and your baby with your doctor or pharmacist, and read the label.
  • Calculators. Our calculators give estimates based on published guidance for healthy adults and healthy, full-term babies. They are not suitable for premature or sick babies, multiple births or medical conditions.
  • Don’t delay care. Never ignore professional medical advice or delay seeking it because of something you read on this website.
  • Emergencies. If you or your baby may be having a medical emergency, call 911 (or your local emergency number) immediately. Signs that need urgent care include a baby who is very sleepy and hard to wake, has trouble breathing, has a fever in the first 3 months, or has very few wet diapers, and, for you, a high fever with a red, painful breast that is getting worse, or thoughts of harming yourself or your baby.

Accuracy

We base our guides on primary sources and list them on each page, and we update articles when guidance changes. Even so, medical knowledge evolves and we can’t guarantee that every page is complete or current at all times. If you notice an error, please let us know.

Our pages link to external websites, mainly the sources we cite. We are not responsible for the content of external sites.

Support

If breastfeeding is difficult, you don’t have to figure it out alone. Our breastfeeding support page lists where to find professional and peer support.
